Time to say goodbye

29th May 2016

This weekend we are honouring and giving thanks for the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul. After giving more than three decades to the development and growth of Killinarden, the Daughters of Charity will leave the parish due to changing times for religious orders. However this weekend we have come to celebrate their time among us since 1983, and to give thanks to God for those happy times. There is a famous passage in the book of Ecclesiastes, about there being: A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance. Whilst we must keep the dancing until later and I know after the summer we will mourn Sisters Anne, Kathleen and Lucy not being here (although it does sound a bit like a eulogy) – I am sure we will all weep a little, it is fitting to remember the times that the Daughters of Charity have been such great friends to so many of us. What image can I use to describe these wonderful women who have served us faithfully for 33 years. The Daughters of Charity are like a good wine – and most of us like a good wine – and they have matured with age, getting better with the years. We will all certainly miss them for their work, their support and love. (Fr. Manus)
